Thankfulness
My friend Paul and I decided to ride our bicycles into work again, and on this ride, I thought about all the people I wanted to give thanks to.
I’m thankful to my wife and son for getting up early with me and sharing a breakfast meal with me before I went to work.
I’m thankful to the workers who made the clothes and shoes I put on today.
I’m thankful to all the people involved in the building of my home as well as the furniture and appliances within.
I’m thankful to all of the people involved in making a fantastic bicycle for me to ride. I’m thankful to the people who make and maintain our road infrastructure.
I’m thankful to those who make and put up signs that tell me how fast I’m (allegedly) going on my 1 Paul Power bicycle.
I’m thankful to the doctors and statisticians who have showed me that my odds of dying from heart disease are 1 in 6, from cancer 1 in 7, from a motor vehicle crash 1 in 93, a bicycle accident 1 in 3,162, and that cycling 50 kilometers a week cuts my risk of heart disease and cancer in half.
I’m thankful to the cyclists who shared the benefits and joy of cycling with me at a young age. I’m thankful to all the people involved in making these safe trails near my home a reality.
I’m thankful to the people who made my bicycle helmet for my safety.
I’m thankful to the people who make the tools I need to maintain my bicycle.
I’m thankful to the people who taught me how to use those tools. I’m thankful to all the people of my trade union who have taught me the skills I needed to have a career within cycling distance from my home.
I’m thankful to the people who created a good job opportunity for me within cycling distance from my home.
I’m thankful to the people I will get to work with today.
I’m thankful to the people who made my sports sunglasses that keep the UV light, the wind, the debris, and the bugs out of my eyes. I’m thankful to the farmers and workers involved in the growing, harvesting, and delivering to market the safe and nutritious food that gives me the strength and health to do this ride.
I’m thankful to the people who have mapped out these routes for me.
I’m thankful to the musicians who made the music I listen to on my ride.
I’m thankful to the workers and engineers who made my smart phone and Bluetooth speaker. I’m thankful to the people who made my fitness tracking watch and app.
I’m thankful to my parents for buying me my first bicycle.
I’m thankful to the people who keep our roads and trails clean.
I’m thankful to all the people who make clean, safe drinking water for me to stay hydrated on this ride. I’m thankful to the swans who swam up to me at the edge of the pond to say hello.
I’m thankful to all the bunnies who politely scooted out of the way as I rode along the trails.
I’m thankful to the people who make it possible for me to share my thankfulness with you.
I’m thankful to you having read this post. And last but not least… I’m thankful to my friend for sharing this ride with me.
